I was wandering around Party City one day during the halloween season and came across this
neat plastic wall decoration. Its a vacum formed cast of a face coming out of a wall. I figured
this would be pretty cool to put on the entrance columns I want to build. Now the realist in me
is screaming that I cant just glue a super thin plastic decoration to the front of my columns
and have it hold up or feel real, so I needed create the same thing out of a sturdier material..
Plaster. The process turned out to be really simple.
- I went to Lowes and picked up a couple bags of plaster and a 5 gallon pail to mix it in.
- I setup the mold on a nice and level table with lots of wood supports around it.
- Once I mixed the plaster based on the bags recommendations, I poured it in the mold. I then
use an electric sander to vibrate the table (to releass any trapped air bubbles).
- Then its just a matter of waiting. It takes a couple hours for the plater to setup. One it is
set, you can remove the plastic mold and let the plaster continue curing. Plaster will continue to
cure for years getting harder and harder over time.
